US President Joe Biden congratulated Canadian premier Justin Trudeau on securing his third term as Canada's leader, the White House said Tuesday.
During a telephone call shortly after Trudeau's victory, the leaders "underscored the strong and deep friendship between the United States and Canada, and discussed their shared commitment to strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of the U.S. and Canadian economies and coordinating on COVID-19 pandemic response," the executive mansion said in a statement.
"The President expressed to Prime Minister Trudeau his desire to continue working closely and deepening collaboration with Canada – one of our nation's top partners," it added.
While Trudeau and his Liberal Party won the lion's share of votes, they nonetheless failed to secure a majority and will have to work with other parties to form a government. -
