Galatasaray made a statement regarding the attack on Fenerbahçe's president Ali Koç during the Göztepe-Fenerbahçe match in the 2nd week of the Trendyol Super League.

The statement from the yellow-red team regarding the incident is as follows;

"We would like to express our get well wishes to both of our clubs and the entire sports community due to the incidents that occurred in the Göztepe-Fenerbahçe match yesterday. This incident is a continuation of the script to disrupt social peace by dragging Turkish football, which millions follow with passion, into chaos.

As Galatasaray Sports Club, all the warnings we have made recently were aimed at preventing these and similar incidents before they happen. It is not a coincidence that those who called for 'exposing them wherever you see them' by throwing Turkish referees in front of their fans last season, those who were trying to provoke at Trabzonspor's stadium, and those who unlawfully attacked our empty stadium after our match and brutally assaulted our Stadium Operations Director were also involved in the incidents that happened yesterday. If the stakeholders of Turkish football had reacted to the incidents mentioned at that time, maybe these sad events would not have come to this point.

Those responsible for this tension-filled football climate, which escalated to the point of punching a FIFA-badged referee on the field last season, and anyone who supports and encourages violence, especially on social media, should be prevented.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the 2nd week of the Super League, the match between Göztepe and Fenerbahçe was marked by the throwing and dropping of foreign objects at Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç. The match, which the yellow-navy blues led 2-0 in the first half, turned chaotic in the early minutes of the second half. Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç went to the away stand to support the yellow-navy blue fans who could not enter the stands. While leaving the stands under security measures and heading towards the tunnel, bottles and foreign objects were thrown at President Koç from the stands. Ali Koç fell to the ground after being hit by a bottle and pushed by one of the officials, and then a scuffle broke out between the host club officials and Ali Koç and his bodyguards. Referee Kadir Sağlam stopped the game during this time, and the match continued from where it left off after President Koç left the field.

ATTACKER SENTENCED TO HOUSE ARREST

Ali Koç filed a criminal complaint against the person who pushed him and all the officials who were negligent in the incident that occurred during the Göztepe match. Upon this, the İzmir Provincial Police Department Sports Security Branch teams detained Fatih Özkan, who pushed Koç while he was walking on the sidelines. After the statement process at the police station, the suspect was referred to the courthouse. After the interrogation at the prosecutor's office, the suspect, who was brought before the peace criminal judge with a request for arrest, was sentenced to house arrest. The person who attacked Ali Koç on the field stated in his statement, "I wanted to take Ali Koç out of the field. The ground was wet. I couldn't control my speed. I unintentionally pushed him hard. I didn't have the intention to harm him."
