Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday thanked the Nigerian people for choosing him over incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in Saturday's presidential poll, urging supporters to maintain calm.
"The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded elections, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has issued an interim message of thanks and gratitude to Nigerians for choosing him and his party over and above the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and their candidate, Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan," Garba Shehu, Buhari's campaign spokesman, said in a late Tuesday statement.
"The party declared victory after Jonathan called Gen. Buhari at 5: 15pm to make a concession and congratulate the winner," he asserted.
"Buhari said anybody happy with the victory of the APC in the presidential election would not be involved in the molestation of opponents or the destruction of their property," Shehu added.
Buhari, according to his spokesman, will deliver his acceptance speech within hours.
