The traffic accident that occurred in Bursa on May 17, 2026 changed the life of the Bilensir family. While treatment continues for 12-year-old Can, who lost his father, his mother Figen Bilensir has pursued the legal process regarding the accident.
THE ACCIDENT IN DOĞANCI TUNNEL DEVASTATED THE FAMILY
In the Doğancı Tunnel on the Bursa-Orhaneli highway, the motorcycle driven by Ali Bilensir collided with a car coming from the opposite direction driven by Bilal Çoban. Ali Bilensir, thrown from the motorcycle by the impact of the collision, lost his life, while his 12-year-old son Can was seriously injured. The little boy, taken under treatment at the hospital, underwent three surgeries after the accident. Can, who has permanent damage and a 2-centimeter shortening in his left leg, is expected to undergo surgery again.
THEY KEEP THE ITEMS LEFT BEHIND BY HIS FATHER IN A DISPLAY CASE
The Bilensir family keeps the memories of Ali Bilensir, who lost his life, alive in the place of honor in their home. The items found on Ali Bilensir on the day of the accident are kept in a glass display case. While the family tries to find solace in these memories on the one hand, on the other hand it continues the treatment process so that Can can walk again.
"THIS IS INJUSTICE TO ME"
Figen Bilensir, who lost her husband, said that she has been fighting for justice for about five months. The mother, stating that she later learned that the car driver involved in the accident was released on October 1, described her sorrow with the following words: "My 12-year-old son survived with serious injuries. Because his left leg was completely broken, he still cannot walk. While my child cannot walk, while I have lost my husband, it deeply upset me that this person walked out freely. This was injustice to me."
PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE OBJECTED, A NEW ARREST WARRANT WAS ISSUED
The car driver Bilal Çoban, who was arrested after the accident, was released by a court decision on October 1, 2026. After the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected to the release decision, an arrest warrant was issued for the driver, who was stated to be primarily at fault in the accident, for his re-arrest. Figen Bilensir, who welcomed the decision, said, "Our Chief Prosecutor's issuing an arrest warrant brought some relief to our pain. However, I do not want this matter to remain here."
GRIEVING MOTHER'S STRIKING STATEMENTS ABOUT THE ACCIDENT
Figen Bilensir, stating that her husband was proceeding in his own lane, claimed that the car driver gave different statements regarding the accident. Bilensir said, "The vehicle coming from the opposite lane suddenly appeared before us. Was he playing with his phone, or did he lose consciousness? Because he used several different statements. None of them match each other. I want this matter to be pursued. I do not think this was a negligent accident. I also want what is necessary to be done in the process from now on."
