Reactions continue to come to Israel, which has been attacking the Gaza Strip since October 7th. Most recently, Canada announced that 30 license permits for arms sales have been suspended. THEY CANCELED THE CONTRACT WITH THE US COMPANYCanadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly made statements regarding the military support given to Israel, which has killed over 40,000 Palestinians in Gaza. Joly announced that they have suspended 30 permits for arms sales to Israel and canceled the contract with a US company for the sale of Canadian-made ammunition to the Israeli army. 'WE WILL NOT SEND ANY WEAPONS. PERIOD.'Joly pointed out that the sale of Canadian weapons to Israel through an intermediary country is a subject of dispute and stated that such commercial transactions by the US company General Dynamics are "absolutely prohibited." Joly used the expression "We will not send any weapons or military equipment to Gaza. Period." SUPPORT FOR THE DECISIONThe National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), the largest Muslim human rights organization in Canada, supported Minister Joly's decision. In the post shared on NCCM's social media platform X, the statement "Minister Joly clearly conveyed the message that Canada's ban on weapons to Israel is still in effect" was used. THEY CANCELED LICENSE PERMITS IN THE UKUK Foreign Minister David Lammy announced in parliament on September 2nd that his country would suspend the sale of certain weapons to Israel. Minister Lammy stated that the decision was made following an examination that found a "clear risk" that UK arms export licenses could be used to "seriously violate international humanitarian law or facilitate it." 'THIS IS NOT AN ARMS EMBARGO'Lammy stated that about 30 out of 350 licenses would be suspended, saying, "It is the legal duty of this government to review export licenses in the face of such a conflict. This is not a general ban or arms embargo." According to the data announced by the UK Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy, more than 100 export licenses have been approved for the sale of weapons, military equipment, and other controlled products from the country to Israel since October 7, 2023. In the attacks Israel has launched on the Gaza Strip since October 7th, at least 16,673 Palestinians, including 11,269 women and 40,819 children, have been killed and 94,291 people have been injured.
