Casualties Reported In Israeli Airstrike On Nuseirat Refugee Camp

15.04.2024 06:57

Airstrike kills 3 Palestinians and injures others, medical source tells Anadolu.

By Hosni Nadim The Israeli army killed three Palestinians and injured a number of others in an airstrike late Sunday targeting a residential building in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

"Three martyrs and others injured were brought to Al-Awda Hospital as a result of an Israeli airstrike on the home of the Arabi family northwest of Nuseirat refugee camp," said an Anadolu correspondent, "ing a medical source who requested anonymity.

He added that the ongoing bombardment of the camp targeted Hassan al-Banna Mosque in the new camp west of Nuseirat, resulting in its complete destruction.

For the second time, Israeli artillery shelled the minaret of the destroyed Al-Qassam Mosque in the camp without any reported injuries, according to the correspondent.

He also reported that Israeli warplanes fired two concussion missiles in the Al-Mufti area in the Nuseirat camp, causing deep craters.

Since Thursday, the second day of the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr, the Israeli army has been continuing its fierce shelling on Nuseirat camp.

Israel has waged a deadly military offensive on the Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7, 2023 cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas in which nearly 1,200 people were killed.

More than 33,700 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have since been killed in Gaza, and nearly 76,400 others injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.

The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza's population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
