Chilling statement in the case of the murder with a bat and hammer: I was the one who struck the first blow to his head.

The security camera footage of the murder committed in Mardin was shown to the suspects by the police. The details in the statements of the attackers, taken based on what happened, were chilling.

HE WAS LEAVING HIS HOUSE TO GO TO WORK

The incident took place on June 22 in the 13 Mart neighborhood of Artuklu district. Resul Derin, a father of 4, was beaten to death with a hammer and a stick by 2 people who approached him from behind while he was leaving his house to go to work.

THEY HIT HIM REPEATEDLY WITH A HAMMER AND A STICK AND RAN AWAY

In the footage captured by the security camera, it was seen that the 2 individuals who ran after Derin on the street started hitting him with the hammer and the stick they were holding. After the first blow, Derin fell to the ground and the suspects continued to hit him. They ran away when people around the scene arrived.

THE ATTACKERS WERE ARRESTED

The identified suspects, cousins Abdulvahap and Selahattin Acet, were arrested after being caught in Kızıltepe district where they fled by car during a police operation. 2 guns, 2 magazines, and 30 bullets were found in the suspects' car. After the procedures at the police station, the suspects were taken to the courthouse and arrested for the crime of "intentional killing".

The statements of Abdulvahap and Selahattin Acet, who watched the footage of the incident, were revealed. Selahattin Acet said in his statement, "I am the person in the white t-shirt in the footage. The person running with me on my left in the black t-shirt is Abdulvahap. As you can see in the video, I delivered the first blow to his head. I don't remember what my stick was like. They showed it to me at the police station, it was broken," he said.

"IF I HAD INTENTION TO KILL, I WOULD HAVE KILLED HIM WITH THE GUN IN THE CAR"

Acet, who explained that two young people from the Derin family and themselves had an argument in the village and that they belonged to two different tribes, said, "Our villages are separate. My uncle's son is calling my father and my father is talking to the other side. The brother of the victim, Halit, is threatening my father. After a while, about 100 people attacked my uncle's son M.C. and R.T. R.T. is still in the hospital. My father and mother were also injured. They recorded this incident on video. They cropped and shared the picture of my injured brother on social media and constantly threatened us. We filed a complaint. When I turned towards the victim, I saw a bulge on his waist. We took action because of that. If I had the intention to kill him, I would have killed him with the gun in the car. It happened in a moment of anger because he insulted me and because I was upset about the marks on my mother's body. My intention was not to kill. I regret it," he said.

Abdulvahap Acet, who expressed regret for the incident, stated that he did not know Resul Derin and said, "We were sitting in a cafe. After we left, a car cut us off. My cousin's son encountered the victim at that moment. The victim insulted my cousin's son. My cousin's son got out of the car and walked towards the victim. They got into a fight. I tried to pull my cousin's son away from there, thinking that the other side would use a gun. I hit his arm with a stick to prevent him from using the gun. I don't know the victim. I have never seen him before, we had no issues between us," he said.
