The CHP delegation met with Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi. Speaking after the meeting, Murat Emir said, 'On the website of the Court of Cassation Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it is clearly stated that the Chairman of the CHP is Özgür Özel. Until the Court of Cassation intervenes in this legal absurdity, we requested from the minister that no police force be used to enter.'
Tension is occurring among party members in front of the CHP headquarters following the 'absolute nullity' decision of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice (BAM) regarding the CHP congress case. Following Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's call for 'the court decision to be implemented' as he returns to the CHP chairmanship, and the Ankara Governorate's 'evacuation' order to the police, officers have moved to clear the headquarters.
CHP DELEGATION MET WITH THE MINISTER OF INTERIOR
After the police mobilization, CHP Deputy Chairperson Murat Emir held a comprehensive press conference at the party headquarters. Following the meeting, the CHP delegation held a discussion with Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi regarding the events.
"DO NOT ENTER WITH POLICE FORCE UNTIL A LEGAL REGULATION IS MADE"
Emir, speaking after the meeting, stated that they had a productive discussion. Emir noted that all political parties are under the jurisdiction of the Court of Cassation Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, that Özgür Özel currently appears as the CHP Chairman on the Court of Cassation's website, and that they requested Minister Çiftçi not to use police force to enter the CHP headquarters until the Court of Cassation intervenes in this situation.
Highlights from Emir's statements are as follows:
"We visited the Minister at his office. We thank the Minister. It was a productive meeting. He addressed two issues. First, the enforcement request was made to our headquarters in violation of procedural rules. Procedural steps should be completed first; if necessary, an enforcement officer can come. Our lawyers were not even allowed to review the file.
The enforcement officers insisted on entering our headquarters even though it was legally unnecessary.
Another issue is that we also stated we have made an application to the Court of Cassation.
We have an application to the Court of Cassation Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. It is clearly visible on the Prosecutor's Office's website that the CHP Chairman is Özgür Özel. Until the Court of Cassation Chief Public Prosecutor's Office intervenes in this legal absurdity, we especially requested that our security forces do not enter our headquarters using force."
