The budget discussions for the Ministry of Family and Social Services for the year 2025 have begun in the TBMM Planning and Budget Commission. As Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş entered the hall, CHP Ankara Deputy Semra Dinçer and CHP Trabzon Deputy Sibel Suiçmez opened a large white cloth that read "296 women were killed this year" along with the names of the murdered women. "DOES YOUR CONSCIENCE HURT?"While Minister Göktaş was shaking hands with the deputies, the CHP female deputies reacted by saying, "Dear Minister, the names of the women who were killed are written on this shroud. It was 296 on October 9, today it is 411. Does your conscience hurt, dear Minister? How do you lay your head on the pillow, dear Minister? The burden of these women is on your shoulders. We have come to the point of carrying the shroud in our bags." "THIS IS NOT TAKSIM SQUARE DEĞİL"At that moment, Commission Chairman Mehmet Muş asked the deputies to remove the cloth, saying, "This is not Taksim Square." The female deputies responded, "Dear Chairman, this shroud is not a banner. It is the shroud of 411 women killed in 2024," and "Since it is forbidden to protest in the streets, we are forced to do it here." CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba also stated that protests by women are banned in Turkey, saying, "This shroud is the bitter truth of Turkey, women are drawing attention to this." After shaking hands with Minister Göktaş, Ağbaba also expressed their reactions. Signs reading "The Istanbul Convention saves lives," "resign," and "We are not marginal, we are the people," along with photos of the murdered women and 8-year-old Narin from Diyarbakır, were placed on the commission benches.
