It has been claimed that nearly 100 American soldiers were injured in Iran's attacks on US bases in the Middle East this month. US officials stated that most of the injured suffered mild concussions and that 96% have returned to duty, a figure confirmed by the Pentagon. Meanwhile, it has also been alleged that the Pentagon concealed some of Iran's attacks and the resulting soldier injuries from the public.
It has been alleged that "approximately 100 American soldiers were injured" in the attacks carried out by Iran this month on US military bases in Middle Eastern countries.
MOST HAVE RETURNED TO DUTY
US officials, speaking to CBS News on condition of anonymity, claimed that a large number of soldiers were injured at US bases targeted by Iran's missile attacks.
The report stated that "in multiple Iranian air strikes on bases in the Middle East region, approximately 100 American soldiers were injured, and most of the injured have returned to duty."
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell also confirmed in a statement to the television channel that since July 7, approximately 100 individuals have been identified as "injured to some degree" and that 96 percent of them have returned to duty. Parnell said, "They are determined to return to the fight. The vast majority of the injuries were mild traumatic brain injuries."
ALLEGATION THAT THE PENTAGON DID NOT DISCLOSE TO THE PUBLIC
The New York Times (NYT) newspaper had claimed that "the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) did not disclose to the public some of Iran's recent attacks on US forces and the fact that a large number of US soldiers were injured in them."
US officials speaking to the newspaper alleged that before the attack in Jordan in which 2 US soldiers were killed and one went missing, Iran had carried out 3 additional attacks on US forces in that country, in which many US soldiers were injured and several US helicopters were damaged.
NUMBER OF US SOLDIERS KILLED IN THE WAR WITH IRAN RISES TO 17
CENTCOM announced that in Iran's attack on the US base in Jordan on July 17, 2 soldiers were killed and 1 soldier was missing. The Pentagon noted that the identities of these 2 soldiers had been determined and that the investigation into the incident was ongoing.
CENTCOM also stated that in Iraq on July 18, during the controlled destruction of unexploded ordnance from an Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), 1 soldier was killed.
With the incident in Iraq, the number of US soldiers reported killed in the war that began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran in February rose to 17.
