The crisis over the closure of Istanbul Bilgi University, owned by Can Holding which was seized by the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), has deepened. While protests have continued for days due to the absence of many departments at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, where students are supposed to continue their education, it has been claimed that the decision to close Bilgi University has been reversed. It is alleged that President Erdogan has intervened in the situation, but this information has not yet been confirmed.
After the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (SDIF) seized Can Holding, Istanbul Bilgi University, which was under the holding, was officially closed in recent days. While it was learned that students would continue their education at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, the absence of many departments caused a new crisis. As students have been protesting for days, a striking claim has surfaced.

OPERATION AGAINST CAN HOLDING
In September 2025, within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the companies affiliated with Can Holding were seized by the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (SDIF) and a trustee was appointed. As part of this operation, the management of the Bilgi Education and Culture Foundation, to which the university was affiliated, was also removed from office by a court decision, and a new trustee board, including YÖK members, was appointed.
