Court decision in electrical current accident: 2 people sentenced to house arrest, 9 people granted parole.

During a heavy rainstorm in Izmir, two people tragically lost their lives after being electrocuted while crossing the road. As part of the investigation into the tragic incident, Gürkan Erdoğan, the General Manager of İZSU, Serdar Sadi, the Deputy General Manager of İZSU, Ali Hıdır Köseoğlu, the former General Manager of İZSU, and Uğur Yüksel, the General Manager of Gdz Electricity Distribution, were among the suspects who appeared before the judge with a request for their arrest. Two of the suspects were placed under house arrest, while the remaining nine were released under judicial control conditions.

Two people who were trying to protect themselves from heavy rain in the Konak district of Izmir were electrocuted and killed. 11 suspects who were detained in connection with the incident were released, while 2 of them were placed under house arrest.

SUSPECTS REINTERROGATED

As part of the investigation conducted by the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, after the preparation of the expert report on the incident, 10 suspects, including the General Manager of IZSU Gürkan Erdoğan, former General Manager of IZSU Ali Hıdır Köseoğlu, and the General Manager of Gdz Electricity Distribution Uğur Yüksel, were reinterrogated by the prosecutor's office after their statements.

The court decided to release 8 of these individuals, including Erdoğan, Köseoğlu, and Yüksel, with a travel ban condition, and placed 2 of them under house arrest.

One person who was captured in Ordu as part of the investigation and had his statement taken via the Audio and Visual Informatics System (SEGBIS) was also released by the prosecutor's office.

FIRST STATEMENT FROM MAYOR TUGAY

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay stated that the release of IZSU General Manager Gürkan Erdoğan and Deputy General Manager Serdar Sadi with judicial control made them happy. Tugay stated that they received the news of the detention of Erdoğan, Sadi, and former General Manager of IZSU Ali Hıdır Köseoğlu unexpectedly and tried to understand the reason behind it. He said, "We understood that this detention decision was made based on some allegations in an expert report."

Tugay stated that Erdoğan and Sadi were detained while performing their duties and said, "I sincerely thank everyone who contributed to this process. In the legal process that will continue regarding our lost citizens, we will continue to do whatever is necessary to contribute to this process with full transparency. We have a sorrow that we will never lose for them. However, we are all seeking justice. We are also making efforts for justice to be served here. Today, I believe that the decision given regarding our colleagues is fair. I wish them a speedy recovery. I wish our institution a speedy recovery."

"WE WILL BE ON DUTY IN THE MORNING"

IZSU General Manager Gürkan Erdoğan also thanked those who did not leave them alone and said, "We have never refused to give a statement or be tried. We tried to assist the judicial authorities throughout the process. We are happy that the process ended this way. We are extremely happy with the decision. We will be on duty from the morning. We will continue to work tirelessly for Izmir."

WHAT HAPPENED?

On July 12, in the Konak district, Özge Ceren Deniz and İnanç Öktemay lost their lives by being electrocuted while stepping into a puddle during heavy rain. As part of the investigation into the incident, 48 out of 51 suspects who were issued arrest warrants were captured. 14 of these individuals were arrested.
