COVID-19 Claims Hundreds More Lives In Brazil, Mexico

Over 700 fatalities, more than 20,000 infections reported in Brazil, over 450 more patients die in Mexico.

Hundreds of more lives were lost to COVID-19 in Brazil and Mexico over the past 24 hours, authorities reported on Tuesday.

In Brazil, the second worst-hit country after the US, 733 more people died since Monday, bringing the death toll to 72,833, according to the Health Ministry.

Infections also continue to surge in Latin America's largest state, with 20,286 more raising the total above 1.88 million, while recoveries are up to over 1.29 million.

Over in Mexico, 485 patients died of virus-related complications over the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 35,491.

A total of 4,685 more COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the country, raising the overall count to 304,435, including over 240,100 recoveries.Across the world, the virus has claimed more than 573,000 lives in at least 188 countries and regions since emerging in China last December.

Over 13.1 million cases have been reported worldwide, with the US, Brazil, India, and Russia currently the hardest-hit countries, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.

The data shows more than half of all patients worldwide have recovered so far.
