The Ministry of Family and Social Services took action regarding famous jeweler Ersan Gülmez, publicly known as Ersan Diamond, who announced that he would put up for sale the socks he wore in the Fenerbahçe-Liverpool match and donate the proceeds to children under state protection. The Ministry reacted to the association of the proceeds from the sale of used socks with children under protection and filed a criminal complaint within the scope of the offense of "publicly degrading the State of the Republic of Turkey."
The sale of his totem socks has led to legal proceedings being initiated against Ersan Gülmez, known to the public as Ersan Diamond. The statements of the jeweler, who announced that he would sell the socks he wore in the Fenerbahçe-Liverpool match for 10 thousand dollars, drew the reaction of the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
HE PUT UP FOR SALE THE SOCKS HE WORE IN THE FENERBAHÇE-LIVERPOOL MATCH
Jeweler Ersan Gülmez, known as Ersan Diamond, made a striking statement in a video he shot during the match played between Fenerbahçe and Liverpool. Gülmez, who announced that he would put up for sale the socks he wore throughout the match and described as "totem socks," stated that he would donate the income from this to children under state protection. While Gülmez's initiative caused reactions, the fact that he cited children under state protection in his statement as the reason for the donation prompted the Ministry of Family and Social Services to take action.
THE MINISTRY TOOK ACTION! A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT WAS FILED
In its statement on the matter, the Ministry of Family and Social Services reported that it did not accept the association of children under state protection with the income to be obtained from the sale of used socks. The Ministry also reacted to the conversion of the initiative into a show by tagging its official accounts. The statement included the following remarks: "Our Ministry has filed a criminal complaint requesting that the social media post in question be evaluated within the scope of the offense of 'openly degrading the State of the Republic of Turkey' regulated in Article 301/1 of Law No. 5237; in addition, the removal and blocking of the content have been requested." Thus, an evaluation was requested regarding Gülmez under Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code.
ATTENTION DRAWN TO DETAIL IN DONATION RECEIPT
In the Ministry's statement, not only the offering of the socks for sale but also the organization stated to have received the donation was brought up. It was stated that the foundation shown as the recipient in the donation receipt announced by Gülmez is not affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Services. The Ministry made the following statement on the matter: "In addition, the foundation specified as the recipient in the receipt shared by the said person is not an organization within our Ministry but a non-governmental organization with a separate legal personality. Presenting a donation made to this foundation as a donation made to our Ministry or to the children under our Ministry's care and protection creates a false perception in the public." With this statement, it was emphasized that the foundation to which the donation was made does not operate within the Ministry and has a separate legal personality.
REMOVAL OF THE CONTENT WAS ALSO REQUESTED
In addition to the criminal complaint, the Ministry of Family and Social Services also requested the removal and blocking of access to the content that caused controversy. The Ministry stated that necessary legal and administrative measures would be taken against the use of children under state care and protection in personal image work. It was emphasized that a determined stance would be exhibited regarding the protection of children and the prevention of the discrediting of state care services.
