CALL FOR A NEW "CONSTITUTION" AFTER CABINET MEETING

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the necessity of a new Constitution in his statement following the Cabinet meeting held the previous day. He stated that it is the duty of the Parliament to create a new and civilian constitution and that they will give more importance to this issue.

"CIVIL CONSTITUTION IS A NECESSITY BEYOND NEED"

Erdogan used the following expressions: "We held our opening ceremony for the judicial year on the first working day of September. With the new legislative year, we will give more importance to the issue of a new and civilian constitution. A civilian constitution is a necessity beyond need for Turkish democracy to complete its struggle against coups and coup mentality.

"IT IS THE PARLIAMENT'S DUTY TO CREATE A CIVIL CONSTITUTION FOR THE PEOPLE"

I have to say this very clearly: We do not find it right or fair for a nation that signed the July 15 National Will Epic to be forced to accept a constitution made by coup plotters. It is the duty of the 28th Term, which has the broadest representation ground in recent years, to create a new and civilian constitution for the people. We will do our best for the Parliament to fulfill this duty."
