Manchester Airports Group (MAG), which operates 3 airports in the UK, has announced that approximately 8.7 million customers' email, phone, license plate, and postal code data were accessed in a cyberattack. Security and operations were not affected, and no payment information was stolen.

In a cyber attack on Manchester Airports Group (MAG), the company operating three airports in the UK, data of approximately 8.7 million customers was accessed.

In a statement from MAG, which operates Manchester Airport, East Midlands Airport, and Stansted Airport, it was noted that data related to car parking, executive lounges, fast-track bookings, and airport Wi-Fi registrations were affected by the attack.

INFORMATION OF NEARLY 9 MILLION CUSTOMERS STOLEN

The statement said data of approximately 8.7 million customers was accessed, and that hackers obtained customers' email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle license plate information, and postal codes.

The statement stated that passenger safety or aviation security was not compromised at any stage during the attack, and airport operations were not affected.

CUSTOMERS' BANK AND PAYMENT INFORMATION PROTECTED

Additionally, the statement noted that no customer bank or payment information was present in the system targeted by the attack. A MAG spokesperson stated that the company immediately contained the risk arising from the incident and is working with expert consultants to protect its customers and systems.

The spokesperson noted that relevant authorities have been informed and cooperation is ongoing with them, adding that customer car park services continue to operate normally.

Stansted Airport, located north of London, also sent an email to its customers urging them to be cautious of unexpected emails, phone calls, or text messages that appear to come from them.

The email stated, "We will never contact you unexpectedly to ask for payment or bank information."
