In Manisa, while the Afşar Dam reached 100% capacity, controlled water release began from the Demirköprü Dam, which reached 90% capacity, to Lake Marmara. DSI officials conducted inspections in the region.
While the Afşar Dam in Manisa has reached 100 percent capacity, controlled water release has begun from the Demirköprü Dam, which has reached 90 percent capacity, to the drying Marmara Lake. The Afşar Dam, located in the Alaşehir district of Manisa, has started releasing water from its spillway after reaching 100 percent capacity following winter and spring rains. The water abundance in the region's dams has delighted producers, while DSİ officials have inspected both irrigation investments and controlled water management on site.
"THE STUDIES ARE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE FOR REGIONAL AGRICULTURE"
İzmir DSİ 2nd Regional Director Hüseyin Koray Bilgi, along with his technical team, conducted inspections at the Afşar Dam. While the water released from the spillway drew attention, Bilgi received information from officials about the ongoing work at the dam site.
Bilgi inspected the closed-system irrigation projects that will transport water from the Afşar Dam to the Alaşehir Plain and evaluated the ongoing canal works. It was stated that the studies carried out within the scope of the "Manisa Alaşehir Irrigation Renewal Project," implemented with the support of the World Bank, are of great importance for regional agriculture.
"NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS ARE DILIGENTLY MAINTAINED"
Stating that the goal is to use water more efficiently with modern irrigation systems, Bilgi noted that significant increases in agricultural production will be achieved upon completion of the projects. Meanwhile, controlled water release has also begun from the Demirköprü Dam, which has reached 90 percent capacity by storing approximately 1 billion cubic meters of water, to the Marmara Lake. DSİ 2nd Regional Director Hüseyin Koray Bilgi inspected the Adala Regulator and canals located downstream of the Demirköprü Dam and supervised the measures taken on site.
Officials reported that necessary precautions are being diligently maintained to prevent any issues during the controlled water release process.
