Death toll from earthquakes in Venezuela rises to 4,333

The number of deaths from the earthquakes that occurred on June 24 in Venezuela has risen to 4,333, while the number of injured has been announced as 16,740. Authorities stated that more than 17,900 people have been left homeless, and announced that 315 unidentified individuals remain under the rubble, with search and rescue operations ongoing.

Venezuela National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez provided information on the latest situation at a press conference held in the capital Caracas.

DEATH TOLL EXCEEDS 4,000

Rodriguez announced that the number of deaths in the earthquakes increased by 215 in the last 24 hours, reaching 4,333. The number of injured was reported to be 16,740.

17,900 PEOPLE LEFT HOMELESS

Rodriguez stated that more than 17,900 people were left homeless due to the earthquakes and said that plans are underway to build 25,000 new homes for the disaster victims.

Rodriguez noted that they need the country's financial resources, which are "illegally blocked," for this purpose and drew attention to the importance of international support.

IDENTITIES OF 315 PEOPLE STILL UNDETERMINED

Rodriguez, who stated that debris removal and body search efforts are ongoing, announced that there are 315 people whose identities have not yet been determined.

Rodriguez said, "We cannot act based on speculation; we must act on the basis of facts. These individuals could not be identified by their relatives, nor could the fingerprints taken be matched with any identity information in the system."

It was reported that unidentified individuals constitute approximately 7 percent of the deceased.

SEARCH OPERATIONS CONTINUE

Authorities stated that more people might be reached under the rubble, emphasizing that search and rescue efforts are ongoing without interruption. It is assessed that the number of deaths and injuries may increase in the coming days.
