Decision to increase the price of plastic bags

While the price of plastic bags in the new year is a matter of curiosity, a striking decision was published in the Official Gazette.

VALID FROM JANUARY 1

The communiqué regarding the recovery participation fees to be collected under the Environmental Law by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change has been published in the Official Gazette. With the decision, the recovery participation fee for plastic bags used in shopping has increased to 86 kuruş per unit with a revaluation rate of 43.93%. The participation fee amounts will be valid from January 1, 2025.

IT WAS APPLIED AS 60 KURUŞ IN 2024

Although the recovery participation fee was set at 60 kuruş per unit starting from January 1, 2024, the amount consumers would pay was continued at 25 kuruş by the ministry.

10.6 BILLION LIRA SAVINGS ACHIEVED

With the implementation of charging for plastic bags since 2019, the formation of 1.5 million tons of plastic waste was prevented until July of this year. This also prevented the import of raw plastic materials necessary for plastic bag production. Additionally, approximately 10.6 billion lira savings were achieved in the national economy.
