Defense partnership agreement between Turkey and the United Kingdom

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer within the framework of the NATO Summit in Ankara and signed the "Security and Defense Partnership Document." According to a statement from the Directorate of Communications, the agreement will enable the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in critical areas such as military collaboration, defense industry, cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, and space.

SECURITY AND DEFENSE PARTNERSHIP DOCUMENT SIGNED

During the meeting, the Security and Defense Partnership Document was signed between the Republic of Türkiye and the United Kingdom.

In a statement from the Directorate of Communications, it was stated that the said Partnership Document reflects the mutual determination of the two leading NATO allies in Europe to further strengthen and institutionalize their cooperation in the face of the changing dynamics of the Euro-Atlantic security environment.

“WILL ALLOW THE TWO COUNTRIES TO STRENGTHEN THEIR COOPERATION”

The statement noted: "The partnership will enable Türkiye and the United Kingdom to strengthen their cooperation by deepening their consultations through new mechanisms in the politico-military dimensions of their security and defense policies, including deterrence and defense, military cooperation, defense industry and technology, cybersecurity and hybrid threats, counter-terrorism, resilience and civil preparedness, and space.

“REAFFIRMED JOINT COMMITMENTS”

Türkiye and the United Kingdom make unique and irreplaceable contributions to Euro-Atlantic security. On the basis of allied solidarity and a shared sense of responsibility, and reaffirming their joint commitment to taking on greater responsibility for building a stronger Europe within a stronger NATO, Türkiye and the United Kingdom are increasing defense expenditures and developing their cooperation to provide the capabilities the alliance needs, while preserving strong transatlantic ties.

The signing of this partnership reaffirms the strong commitments of Türkiye and the United Kingdom to each other's defense and to the North Atlantic Treaty."
