DEM Party Kocaeli Deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu addressed AK Party Osmaniye Deputy and Chair of the TBMM Human Rights Inquiry Commission Derya Yanık at a press conference held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
Gergerlioğlu stated, "We are asking many questions to the Human Rights Inquiry Commission and we are receiving disappointing answers to these questions. Many prisoners are applying to us, and we are asking these questions to the Human Rights Inquiry Commission Chair, Ms. Derya Yanık. However, Ms. Derya Yanık sends us legislation without asking the prisons."
A RESPONSE FROM YANIK
A response came from Derya Yanık regarding Gergerlioğlu's statements. In a post on her social media account, Yanık stated, "The applications that Mr. Gergerlioğlu claims we sent without asking any institution are issues outside the scope of our Commission's examination, supervision, and discretion."
"WE HAD A MUCH MORE IMPORTANT AGENDA THAN YOUR ALLEGATIONS"
Yanık's response to Gergerlioğlu is as follows:
I have not forgotten you, Mr. Gergerlioğlu. Today, we had a much more important agenda than your unfounded allegations against our Commission and myself: November 25. Do not think that we will leave your baseless accusations unanswered! Let's begin:
"WE RELAYED THE RESPONSES RECEIVED BY ASKING THE NECESSARY QUESTIONS"
Kocaeli Deputy Mr. Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu claims that we write and send back legislative provisions regarding the applications he made to our TBMM Human Rights Inquiry Commission, and that we do not ask the relevant institutions about the allegations. First, let's look at his applications. Mr. Gergerlioğlu made a total of 443 applications to our Commission in the 28th term. (This information is from this morning; I signed three files in response to Mr. Gergerlioğlu this afternoon, if I am not mistaken.) We have explained this separately in the tables below. We relayed the responses received by asking the necessary questions from the relevant institutions regarding Mr. Gergerlioğlu's applications. In fact, sometimes we have made a total of 548 transactions regarding 443 applications because we asked one application to multiple institutions.
Since Mr. Gergerlioğlu is known for distorting obvious facts, let’s also put the data in writing: The details of the applications asked to the relevant institutions are as follows:
Alleged incidents and problems experienced in the penal institution: 373 cases,
Allegations and problems directed at law enforcement: 17 cases,
Allegations and problems regarding civil servants: 10 cases,
Problems related to the right to education: 2 cases,
And problems related to social security transactions: 2 cases.
Let’s clarify that, to avoid any confusion when adding the numbers; sometimes a single application may contain multiple issues. The headings we provided above relate to the detailed classification of the applications.
"ISSUES OUTSIDE THE DISCRETIONARY AUTHORITY OF OUR COMMISSION"
The applications that Mr. Gergerlioğlu claims we wrote and sent without asking any institution are issues outside the scope of our Commission's examination, supervision, and discretionary authority. Therefore, we provide the applicant with responses that indicate the path they should follow according to the legislation or the authorities they can apply to. The details of such applications are in the table below. Since we have already shown an example of reading the table above, we do not see the need to repeat it again. We hope we are not mistaken, Mr. Gergerlioğlu.
In clearer terms:
Mr. Gergerlioğlu's 443 applications relate to
477 subject headings, and
A total of 548 transactions have been made.
"IT IS AN INJUSTICE AT THE VERY LEAST"
It is an injustice, at the very least, to our Commission and our expert colleagues who have spent days responding seriously to the frivolous applications that Mr. Gergerlioğlu has sent via WhatsApp. Personally, I have no expectations from Mr. Gergerlioğlu, but he needs to apologize to our experts.
Mr. Gergerlioğlu, in your political culture, it is impossible to object to what is "put in front of you." Do not confuse us with yourself. We meticulously examine every application and take the necessary actions. Even taking your accusations against me seriously is unnecessary; you cannot get anywhere with such petty word games."
