Off the coast of Spain's Tenerife island, two drug traffickers set their own yacht on fire to avoid being caught by the police. Those moments were captured on camera.

The incident occurred near the Canary Islands, a popular destination for holidaymakers. Two men, a Frenchman and a Dutchman, were being pursued by police boats while navigating their yacht, which contained a large amount of cocaine.

Realizing they could not escape, the duo stopped the boat and deliberately set it on fire. The footage shows them panicking as they tried to start the fire, and eventually, the yacht was engulfed in flames.

The fire put both the traffickers and the police in great danger, as the yacht could explode at any moment. Police teams attempted to extinguish the fire with water hoses. The two men jumped into the sea, one of whom was seriously injured.

The yacht was stopped about 80 km away from the Canary Islands. The flames engulfed the entire boat, and it sank. While most of the cocaine was submerged in the sea, the police managed to recover 25 kilograms of cocaine.

This operation was part of a large-scale investigation against cocaine trafficking from Egypt to Europe. Authorities had determined that the yacht would transport the drugs and transfer them to another boat in open waters.

The Spanish police made the following statement:

"The crew's act of setting the boat on fire made the operation very dangerous for the Customs teams. However, the teams acted quickly, first extinguishing the fire and then managing to board the yacht. Although the fire reignited, we were able to recover some of the drugs."

The two traffickers on the boat were taken into custody. The seriously injured person was airlifted to the hospital.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Spanish Civil Guard, National Police, Customs officials, as well as authorities from the UK and the US. The seized drugs and the detained individuals were brought to the port of Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife.
