The Duchess of Edinburgh met Monday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and first lady Olena Zelenska in the capital Kyiv, becoming the first member of Britain's Royal Family to visit Ukraine since the start of the war with Russia.
"Her Royal Highness met @ZelenskyyUa and @ZelenskaUA as well as women, men and children impacted by the war," The Royal Family posted on X.
During her visit to the UN Survivor Relief Center in Kyiv, Sophie was also informed about the work of the UN Population Fund, which operates in 12 cities across Ukraine, providing vital psychosocial and legal support to those in need.
She also met volunteers who are helping their communities cope with the aftermath of the attacks through facilitating mental health care activities for children, added the Royal Family.
Russia launched its war on Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, just over two years ago. -
