A militant was killed by Egyptian army forces killed in the Sinai Peninsula, an army spokesman said Friday.
Nour al-Hamdeen was killed in an exchange of fire with Second Army forces in the Sheikh Zuweid city, spokesman Ahmed Ali said in a statement on his official Facebook page.
The spokesman described al-Hamdeen as one of the "most dangerous Takfiris" in Sheikh Zuweid.
Sinai has recently seen an unprecedented spike in militant attacks on security forces in its northeastern border region, which have left dozens of security personnel dead since the army ousted elected president Mohamed Morsi last July.
The Egyptian army is already engaged in a wide-ranging military operation in Sinai, launched last September with the stated aim of countering militant attacks.
