Egypt Court Postpones Trial Of Mubarak Sons

An Egyptian court on Thursday postponed the trial of ousted president Hosni Mubarak's two sons and six others charged with corruption to May 15, judicial sources have said.



Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, along with six Mubarak-era businessmen, are accused of stock market manipulation and squandering public funds.



Also on Thursday, an appeals court set June 12 to announce its verdict in the retrial of Mubarak-era interior minister Habib al-Adly, who is accused of illegal profiteering and laundering 5 million Egyptian pounds (roughly $718,000).



Al-Adly was initially sentenced in mid-2011 to 12 years in prison and fines of over 4.8 million Egyptian pounds (roughly $694,000). He was later granted a retrial after his lawyers appealed the sentence.



Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, along with al-Adly, face a number of other trials as well, which began following Egypt's 2011 uprising that ended the elder Mubarak's 30-year rule.



In late 2012, Mubarak and al-Adly were sentenced to 25 years in prison each for inciting the murder of anti-government demonstrators during the uprising.



The court later ordered a retrial for Mubarak, however, after the former president's lawyers successfully appealed the jail sentence.



The ex-president, his two sons and Egyptian fugitive business tycoon Hussein Salem also face charges of financial corruption, abuse of power, profiteering and exporting Egyptian natural gas to Israel at below-market prices.
