Former national and technical director Emre Belözoğlu made striking statements regarding his time at Galatasaray during his appearance on Kafa Sports.

"WE COULD HAVE STAYED AT GALATASARAY"

"Inter watched both me and Okan brother at that time. Actually, Okan brother's transfer developed a bit later. They watched me for 1 year, and after watching Okan brother for 2 matches, they said 'We found a better player than Emre.' He stayed with me for 2 years, then returned to Beşiktaş. I stayed at Inter for another 1.5 years after him. The transfer process to Inter was very challenging for us at that time. We could have stayed at Galatasaray during that period, but after the successes in Europe, there were very serious offers coming in. I don't want to evaluate specifically regarding the managers, but if they really wanted, we would have stayed at Galatasaray at that time.

There is a situation where our profession is thought to be very easy, which is very disturbing. Not everyone can play football at a high level.

"I WANTED EROL HOCA TO STAY"

In the 2020-2021 season, we came back from 8-9 points behind in the last 10 weeks and reduced the difference to 1 point. We also dropped to 10 weeks there. Erol hoca left, the management made a decision. I actually wanted Erol hoca to stay until the end of the season. Then they asked me to take over the team. I had actually told Erol hoca that I didn't want to be a sporting director. I wanted to continue either as a player or a coach, but when both the coach and the management requested, we started working like this after football. At that time, I could have played 5-10 matches as a player in the team, but Erol hoca didn't want that. During the separation process, I didn't want him to leave. I thought we wouldn't be champions, but he still deserved to stay until the end of the season. Sometimes, not sometimes, most of the time they do us wrong, and we remain silent.
