Bordeaux, going through a financially difficult period and being relegated from Ligue 2 to the National League (3rd League) due to their debts, has also decided to give up their professional status acquired in 1937. As a result, all players' contracts of the French team will be automatically terminated and their facilities will be closed. The prestigious club, which achieved a happy ending in the 2008-2009 season by winning its 6th championship in Ligue 1, also has 4 French Cup victories, 3 French League Cup victories, and 2 French Super Cup victories.

In the 2008-2009 season, Bordeaux, one of France's established teams, became the champion in Ligue 1. However, they are now disappearing into history. Most recently, the French club, which was relegated to Ligue 2 at the end of the 2021-2022 season, is on the verge of closure.

Last season, Bordeaux finished 12th in Ligue 2 with 50 points, and due to debts, they were relegated from Ligue 2 to the National League (3rd League) instead of returning to Ligue 1.

According to the French press, Sud Ouest, Bordeaux has informed the French Football Federation that they have renounced the professional status they acquired in 1937. As of June 30, Bordeaux, which suffered a loss of 40 million euros, will automatically terminate the contracts of all its players and close its facilities because it renounced professional status.
