Ex-Galatasaray Bosnian İnternational Will Stay İn Football

04.03.2015 20:48

"I do not want to serve as a coach, because it means that I would constantly travel and be separated from my family," says former Galatasaray midfielder Misimovic a day after announcing his retirement.

Bosnian international football player Zvjezdan Misimovic stated that he is planning to stay in football despite announcing his retirement as a player on Tuesday.

"I do not want to serve as a coach, because it means that I would constantly travel and be separated from my family. I have a few options, so I'll see. Anyway, I will stay in the football world, that's for sure, but in an acceptable way for my family and me," said 32-year-old Misimovic on Wednesday in an exclusive interview to The Anadolu Agency.

Misimovic said he was transferred to Galatasaray in 2010 after Wolfsburg did not want to transfer him to another German club.

"There is a lot of pressure on the players in Turkey and I knew that even before I was transferred. I am sorry that I could not stay longer in Galatasaray," said Misimovic, adding that he is not offended by anyone and that he gained different experiences during his career in Russia and China.

Gheorghe Hagi, Galatasaray's Romanian manager in 2010 and a legendary player at the club in late 1990s and early 2000s, removed Misimovic from the squad on the grounds of the player's undisciplined behavior, indifferent attitude in matches and training sessions and lack of concentration during the Istanbulite giants' turbulent 2010-11 season.

Hagi and Misimovic did not get along well with each other and so the Bosnian midfielder's seven-month spell in Istanbul ended in March 2011 when Misimovic was signed by Russian side Dinamo Moscow.

Misimovic scored 25 goals in 84 international appearances and has the most caps in the Bosnian national team's history.

Starting his professional career in Bayern Munich in 2000, Misimovic played for Bochum, Nurnberg, Wolfsburg, Galatasaray, Dinamo Moscow and Guizhou Renhe. He helped Wolfsburg win the Bundesliga title in the 2008-09 football season.
