Ö.A., who applied to the hospital in İskenderun district of Hatay with severe abdominal pain complaint, had a hairball measuring 50 centimeters removed from his stomach. It was stated that the patient had a condition known as trichophagia, which is a habit of eating hair, for approximately 10-15 years.

A 20-year-old patient named Ö.A. went to the emergency department of İskenderun State Hospital in Hatay with severe abdominal pain complaint. During the initial intervention, a foreign object and a stomach tear were detected in his stomach. Upon this, General Surgery Specialist Opr. Dr. Süleyman Belli and his team decided to perform emergency surgery for the patient. During the operation, a hairball about 50 centimeters long was removed from Ö.A.'s stomach.

"COMPLETELY FILLING THE STOMACH"

Op. Dr. Süleyman Belli stated that they identified a 1-centimeter tear in the front part of the stomach during the surgery and said, "When we examined the inside of the stomach from the tear area, we found a hairball about 50 centimeters long that completely filled the stomach and extended to the duodenum. Together with my team, we successfully removed the hairball from its place and completed the surgery, which lasted for 60 minutes."

SUFFERING FROM TRICHOPHAGIA

It was stated that the patient has a hair-eating habit known as trichophagia (Rapunzel syndrome) for about 10-15 years. Ö.A.'s treatment is ongoing at İskenderun State Hospital.
