Explosion at Tüpraş Refinery in İzmit

An explosion occurred at the Turkey Petroleum Refineries (TÜPRAŞ) facilities in Izmit during the afternoon hours. Sirens began to sound in the area following the explosion.

SMOKE RISING FROM THE FACILITY

In the first images received, smoke was seen rising from the facility, while details regarding the explosion, which was also felt in Değirmendere, have not yet been obtained. Many people thought there was an earthquake due to the intensity of the explosion.

BÜYÜKAKIN: EXPLOSION OCCURRED DURING DRILL

After the explosion, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın stated, "An explosion occurred during the drill, there are no injured or dead. The fire that broke out was brought under control in a short time."
