Turkey's industrial sector continues to play a locomotive role in the economy by achieving its highest export figures ever in the January-September period of 2023. Notable increases were observed in sub-sectors such as automotive, electronics, jewelry, and defense.

The industrial sector continues to play a locomotive role in Turkey's exports. Five sectors within the industry achieved the highest ever export figures. Despite ongoing geopolitical risks worldwide and concerns about global economic activity, some sectors within the industry are breaking export records.



EXPORT INCREASED BY 3.2% IN 9 MONTHS



According to data compiled from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), Turkey's exports increased by 3.2% to reach 192.8 billion dollars in the January-September period of this year compared to the same period last year. The country's industrial exports rose to 135.6 billion dollars with a 2% increase during this period. It was observed that some sub-sectors in industrial exports also set records. In the first 9 months of the year, the industrial sector's share in Turkey's total exports was 81.6%.



AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY EXPORTS REACHED 27 BILLION DOLLARS



The automotive sector was the most exported sector among the sub-branches of industry with 26.9 billion dollars in the first 9 months of the year, marking the highest 9-month export figure ever. Yacht and ship services reached 1.4 billion dollars, the electrical and electronics sector 12.2 billion dollars, the jewelry sector 5.4 billion dollars, and the defense and aerospace industry 4.3 billion dollars, achieving the highest ever January-September exports. In the first 9 months of the year, the export increase in the automotive industry was calculated at 5.3%, in yacht and ship services at 0.3%, in the electrical and electronics sector at 1.9%, in the jewelry sector at 14.4%, and in the defense and aerospace industry at 12.2%.



AUTOMOTIVE EXPORTS TO GERMANY EXCEEDED 3.5 BILLION DOLLARS



When looking at the markets where the sectors that broke records in the industrial group exported, Germany stood out in the automotive industry, Norway in yacht and ship services, the United Kingdom in electrical and electronics, and the United Arab Emirates in the jewelry sector. The automotive industry exported 3.6 billion dollars to Germany, yacht and ship services 214.6 million dollars to Norway, electrical and electronics 1.2 billion dollars to the United Kingdom, and the jewelry sector 1.9 billion dollars to the United Arab Emirates. When looking at specific provinces, Kocaeli led the automotive industry with 6.9 billion dollars, yacht and ship services with 788.9 million dollars, electrical and electronics with 6.1 billion dollars, and the jewelry sector with 3.7 billion dollars in Istanbul.
