"The Point and Comma Ruckus", "The Eighties" and "The Philosopher of the Dairy" are productions that have left a mark in memory, and the famous actor Abdullah Şahin's trial has come to a conclusion. The court sentenced actor Abdullah Şahin to 7 months and 15 days in prison and a judicial fine of 9,100 lira for allegedly threatening and insulting a doctor he argued with at the hospital where he went for treatment, and decided to suspend the announcement of the verdict. THREAT AND INSULT TO THE DOCTORAccording to information compiled by AA reporter from the case file, actor and comedian Abdullah Şahin (76) went to the ear, nose, and throat outpatient clinic at Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşcıoğlu City Hospital in Şişli on December 9, 2022, for treatment. Here, Şahin entered the examination room of Dr. Uğur Uygan and stated that he had an appointment but his name had not been called. He began to argue with the doctor, who told him to apply to the secretary. Şahin, who started to speak tensely, questioning why he had not been examined despite his name being written on the screen, used threatening and insulting expressions towards the doctor, saying, "Don't speak loudly, be respectful, there is no deaf person in front of you. Do you know who I am, brother? I can take your mind. Even the gendarmerie would have a hard time taking you from my hands. No one can save you." THE ISSUE WAS TAKEN TO COURTAfter the doctor, who was concerned for his safety, issued a "white code," a report was prepared, and the matter was taken to court.
In the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, defendant Şahin, whose statement was taken, denied the allegations against him, claiming that he was not examined despite waiting for his turn, which led to the argument, but he did not threaten or insult the doctor. Following the doctor's complaint, it was requested that defendant Şahin be sentenced to imprisonment of 1 year and 9 months to 6 years and 6 months for the crimes of "threat" and "publicly insulting a public official due to their duty," and that the provisions for the suspension of the imprisonment sentence under the additional Article 12 of the Basic Health Services Law No. 3359 be applied. ''HE PRESSED A BUTTON, 4 POLICE CAME''After the indictment was accepted, defendant Şahin appeared before the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance, stating that he went to the hospital to be examined on the day of the incident, knocked on the doctor's door, and asked, "Can I come in?" When he was responded to with "What is it, what do you want?", he said, "I came to be examined." When the doctor responded, "Your name is not here, get out," Şahin claimed he showed his name written on the screen, and the doctor said, "Okay, go, check with the secretary." Şahin stated, "I was surprised because I had never been treated this way before. Since my profession is comedy, he recognized me, I thought he was joking. He said, 'Get out, get lost.' This behavior was not normal. He pressed a button, and 4 police came. The police took me downstairs. I did not say the words in the indictment. In fact, while I was there, young doctors also came and said things like, 'There is no day he doesn't fight.'" VERDICT ANNOUNCEDAfter the trial, the court, considering the case file, witness statements, and the complainant's statements, sentenced defendant Şahin to a judicial fine of 9,100 lira for the crime of "insult," equivalent to 455 days, and a prison sentence of 7 months and 15 days for the crime of "threat." Taking into account that the defendant had not been previously convicted of an intentional crime, the court decided to suspend the announcement of the verdict and placed Şahin under a 5-year probation period.
