WHO IS MUAZZEZ ABACI?
Muazzez Abacı was born on November 12, 1947, in Ankara. She joined Ankara Radio in 1966. In 1973, she released her first record "Bir Sen Kaldın İçimde". She became one of the names that popularized classical and polyphonic Turkish music. After her radio years, she quickly became one of the sought-after soloists in the nightclubs of Istanbul, but her stage and record work was interrupted due to her private life. She recorded many 45s and LPs from various music companies. She is known for her song "Şakayık" and "Vurgun," which became synonymous with her.
In 1990, Muazzez Abacı gained prominence with the song and album "Vurgun," composed by Selçuk Tekay and with lyrics by Cemal Safi. In the early 2000s, due to the general stagnation and decline in Turkish Art Music, she significantly withdrew from the music agenda.
Muazzez Abacı spent most of her time living with her daughter Saba Abacı and her grandchild in the USA.
