One of the pioneers of Arabesque music, Ferdi Tayfur, passed away at the age of 79 in the hospital where he was being treated in Antalya. The artist's death has plunged his fans and the art community into mourning. A memorial ceremony is being held for Ferdi Tayfur at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM). Tayfur's coffin, wrapped in the Turkish flag, was brought to the AKM.
THEY DIDN'T MIND THE RAIN AND MUD
Fans of the artist, upon learning of the ceremony, flocked to the front of the AKM hours in advance, regardless of the rain and mud, to bid farewell to Tayfur on his final journey. Thousands of citizens sang Tayfur's unforgettable songs in unison under the rain. Among the fans singing Tayfur's songs, some could not hold back their tears, which was captured on camera.
WARNINGS WERE MADE IN THE HALL
Frequent warnings were made at the AKM to refrain from chanting slogans and singing songs.
"I ATE A LOT OF BREAD THANKS TO FERDI TAYFUR"
Many famous names, including Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, İbrahim Tatlıses, Fatih Kısaparmak, and Yavuz Bingöl, attended the memorial ceremony. İbrahim Tatlıses stated about the artist, "He was the prince of Arabesque. A true prince. I ate a lot of bread thanks to Ferdi Tayfur. May his place be paradise." Gencebay said, "I am very ill, friends. We are very sad; we came to fulfill our last duty."
THE FUNERAL PROGRAM HAD CHANGED
Ferdi Tayfur's funeral prayer was supposed to be held at the Emirhan Çınaraltı Mosque in Sarıyer, but due to the high attendance, the artist will be bid farewell at the Levent Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque. After the funeral prayer, which will be held following the afternoon prayer, Ferdi Tayfur's body will be laid to rest at the Yeniköy Family Cemetery.
