Murat Sevilen (44), who strangled his daughter Eylem Sevilen (18) to death after an argument in Gönen district of Balıkesir, was caught while trying to find his daughter's boyfriend.
The incident took place yesterday around 20.00 in Karşıyaka neighborhood, 40016 Street in Gönen district. Murat Sevilen, who is claimed to have psychological problems, allegedly argued with his daughter Eylem Sevilen, who wanted to go to her friend's birthday party. Angry Murat Sevilen left the house after strangling his daughter. The murder came to light when Hafize Sevilen, the wife of Murat Sevilen and a mother of two children working as an agricultural worker, returned home from work. Hafize Sevilen, who had a nervous breakdown when she found her daughter's lifeless body in the sofa bed, called 112 Emergency Call Center. Health personnel who arrived at the address in a short time determined that Eylem Sevilen was dead. The lifeless body of Eylem Sevilen, who was found to be working at a pizzeria, was sent to Bursa Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

After the incident, the police teams who conducted an investigation at the house caught and detained Murat Sevilen, who had escaped. Sevilen, taken to Gönen District Police Department, said in his statement, "My daughter, whom I thought had a boyfriend, wanted to go to another friend's birthday party. I didn't allow her, thinking that she would go with her boyfriend. We argued and then I killed her and put her body on the sofa bed. Then I searched her phone and read the messages she exchanged with her boyfriend. This time, I left home to find her boyfriend and got in a taxi. But the police caught me in a short time," he said.
Murat Sevilen, a construction worker with psychological problems who is claimed to have not been taking his medication for a while, was arrested by the court he was referred to at the courthouse.
It was stated that Eylem Sevilen will be buried in Gönen.
