Famous singer Edis reacted strongly against the brutal murder of two young women, Ayşenur and İkbal, in Fatih, Istanbul. In a statement he made on social media, he emphasized that femicides should be addressed not as personal issues but as a political problem. FEMICIDES ARE A SOCIETAL ISSUEEdis stated that these murders are a result of the prevailing attitudes that fuel violence against women, saying, "Please do not evaluate femicides as personal issues. Femicides are political. They are a societal issue," he said. In his statement, he expressed that the freedom of perpetrators, who are emboldened by statements that create an environment of violence and the shortcomings of the justice system, feeds this situation. "The understanding that looks at womanhood, femininity, and femininity with contempt," Edis said, also emphasized the responsibility of media figures and social media trolls that serve this understanding. Edis stated, "Defining this awareness of equality as a non-essential necessity, as an elitist perspective, and seeing it as an imposition of foreign cultures is unacceptable," he said. A MOTHER'S EXPERIENCE IS UNBEARABLEThe artist warned, "As long as we do not change ourselves, what we write, and our behaviors in society, the brutality of these murders will continue to increase," expressing that society's sensitivity on this issue needs to evolve into more than just social media trends. Edis also expressed his sadness and anger over the events, saying, "It is unbearable for a mother to feel so helpless that she would wish her child had been shot but not hurt," he said.
