First statement from Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu regarding the events at the CHP headquarters.

25.05.2026 08:30

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who returned to the leadership of CHP by a court decision, spoke for the first time about the events at the headquarters. Kılıçdaroğlu told those who visited him: "For the first time in CHP history, our deputies, PM members, and YDK members were not allowed into our party building. What could be worse than that? We sought a path of collective decision-making. However, all this effort was left unanswered by our friends. And this situation, which I am also very uncomfortable with, emerged."

Tensions rose at CHP headquarters following the "absolute void" decision. After the attempt to notify the decision proved unsuccessful, police teams entered the building through the parking lot gate and intervened. The barricade set up at the entrance of the headquarters was removed, and clashes broke out between party members and security forces. During the tension, chemicals from fire extinguishers were sprayed at the police, while the teams used tear gas and plastic bullets.

DAMAGE OCCURRED AT HEADQUARTERS

As the conflict escalated, chairs and seating groups used as barricades were damaged. The glass entrance doors of the headquarters also suffered serious damage. Due to the scuffle between the police and party members, significant material damage occurred in the building.

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was reinstated as CHP Chairman after the court's "absolute void" decision, also made an assessment of the developments.

FIRST STATEMENT FROM KILIÇDAROĞLU

Journalist Barış Yarkadaş, on the tv100 live broadcast, conveyed the statements Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu used in his meeting with visiting deputies.

It was learned that CHP deputies Mahir Polat, Hüseyin Yıldız, Barış Bektaş, Sevda Erdan Kılıç, and Mustafa Adıgüzel visited Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at his residence.

Barış Yarkadaş reported Kılıçdaroğlu's first words to his visitors as follows:

"WHAT COULD BE WORSE THAN THIS?"

"For the first time in CHP history, our deputies, PM members, and YDK members were not allowed into our party building. What could be worse than this?

"WE SOUGHT A PATH OF COMPROMISE TO THE END"

We sought a path of compromise to the end. We sought a way to make decisions together. But all this effort was left unanswered by our friends. And this picture, which I am also very uncomfortable with, emerged. However, we certainly did not cause this picture.

HE MADE A CALL

Please make a call for calm to our party organizations, our citizens, our party members, and everyone. When you go out from here, do not be hurtful, be constructive."
