In the Beykoz district of Istanbul, a forest fire that had been brought under control reignited during cooling operations, causing moments of panic. While aerial and ground interventions continue against flames that turned a 3-hectare reforestation area in Kılıçlı Mahallesi to ashes, smoke rising in places due to the wind put teams on alert. In the area where the Istanbul Governorate shared damage assessments, a critical race against time is underway to fully extinguish the flames.
A forest fire that broke out in the afternoon in the Beykoz Kılıçlı Neighborhood and was announced to have been brought under control reignited during cooling efforts. Teams are continuing to intervene in the flames, which have grown with the effect of the wind.
TEAMS MOBILIZED
The fire started in a forested area at around 15:50 for an undetermined reason. Upon the rise of smoke, fire department, emergency health, and General Directorate of Forestry teams were dispatched to the scene. After intensive efforts carried out from land and air, the fire was brought under control as of 18:30.
GOVERNOR'S OFFICE REVEALS THE DIRE SITUATION
In the initial statement from the Istanbul Governor's Office, it was stated that the fire was fought with 3 firefighting helicopters, 17 water tankers, and 80 personnel. The statement shared information that 3 hectares of afforestation area and shrubland were damaged.
FLAMES REIGNITED
A concerning development occurred during the cooling efforts initiated after the fire was brought under control. Flames began to rise again at some points in the forested area. Teams in the region are continuing their interventions to prevent the fire from spreading again.
