CHP Leader Özgür Özel attended the funeral ceremony of Nilüfer Gürsoy, the daughter of the 3rd President Celal Bayar and former Justice Party Member of Parliament, without disrupting his schedule. Answering journalists' questions, Özel gave a message for early elections and drew attention to the people's livelihood difficulties.

ERDOĞAN HAD CLOSED THE DOOR FOR "EARLY ELECTIONS"

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had closed the door for early election discussions by stating, "In our opinion, these discussions are nothing more than the external reflections of the escalating internal conflict within the opposition. The baseless fake agendas that the opposition is trying to cover up their internal power struggles. There are no early elections in the Presidential Government System."

"LET'S MAKE A DECISION, ELECTIONS IN 2 MONTHS"

Özel, in response to a question about President Erdoğan's evaluation regarding early elections, said, "There is no such thing as early elections, the renewal of elections can only be done either by a decision of the President or with the votes of 360 members of the Parliament. Since the last term was accepted as the second term due to the decision of the Supreme Election Council, he can run for presidency one more time. If the decision is made by the Parliament with the votes of 360 members, elections can be renewed. In our opinion, let's make a decision tomorrow, have early elections in two months. But as accurate as his technical evaluation is, his political evaluation is equally inaccurate."

"THIS IS NOT HOW IT WORKS, CITIZENS ARE IN A DESPERATE SITUATION"

Özel, in his statement, continued, "There are no elections for four years, everyone should plan accordingly. There is no increase in the minimum wage because there are no elections, those who talked about increasing the minimum pension to 10,000 TL last year, now say that they should manage with this amount for another six months. Today's 17,000 lira is equivalent to 13,000 lira in January, they say let's not give any more increase for another six months. This is not how it works. AK Party supporters, MHP supporters, all voters, all workers, minimum wage earners, farmers, and tradesmen are in a desperate situation."

"YOU LEFT THEM UNABLE TO SURVIVE BY SAYING THERE ARE NO ELECTIONS"

Özel, saying "We plan and act according to the people's needs," added, "We go to Gebze in Kocaeli, 100,000 people come. We ask them, 'Can you make a living?' They say, 'We can't.' We ask them, 'Do you want an increase?' They say, 'We do.' If you don't increase the minimum wage, if there is no livelihood, there will be elections. I'm not saying this, the squares are saying, 'elections, elections.' Because you left them unable to survive by saying there are no elections," criticizing the government.

Özel emphasized that he told President Erdoğan about the four main issues and their solutions during their meeting, and said, "In addition to that, I also mentioned the steps that need to be taken for democracy in the country. We will continue to discuss the agenda of the citizens and the nation. The citizens' agenda is my agenda," he said.
