"After the trustee decision, a 'Ban' decision for Tunceli and Elazığ."

Following the appointment of trustees to the municipalities of Tunceli and Ovacık, the Tunceli Governorship announced that all forms of demonstrations and events in open and closed areas across the province are prohibited for a period of 10 days. After Tunceli, the Elazığ Governorship also banned demonstrations and marches in the city for a duration of 7 days.

With the decision of the Ministry of Interior, after the removal of the mayors of Tunceli and Ovacık from their duties, the Tunceli Governorship announced that all actions and events in the city have been banned for a period of 10 days.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNORSHIP

In a statement made by the governorship, it was reported that various decisions were taken to ensure peace and security within the provincial borders. The statement noted that only events deemed appropriate by the governorship and district governorships could be held in the province, and it was recorded as follows:

"Gatherings, marches, vigils, press statements, hunger strikes, sit-ins, rallies, setting up stands, erecting tents, distributing leaflets, brochures, stickers, hanging posters, banners, and all kinds of actions and events intended to be held in open and closed areas in our province have been banned for a period of 10 days until December 1 at 23:59, in accordance with Articles 17 and 19 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 and Articles 11/A, B, and C of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442 (including the gendarmerie region)."

AFTER TUNCELI, ELAZIĞ GOVERNORSHIP ALSO ANNOUNCED A BAN

In a statement from the Elazığ Governorship, it was stated, "With the decision dated November 22, 2024, and numbered 2024/12; all kinds of meetings and demonstrations, press statements, setting up stands, distributing leaflets, hanging posters, and similar events, except for those deemed appropriate by the Governorship and District Governorships, are banned for a period of 7 days from November 23, 2024, at 00:01 until November 29, 2024, at 23:59, in accordance with Articles 17 and 19 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 and Article 11 (a) and (c) of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442. Additionally, in order to prevent participation in any unlawful actions/events by individuals or groups using the route of our province from the city center, districts, or surrounding provinces, a decision has been made to prohibit the entry of individuals/groups who may participate in unlawful actions/events into our province and districts, as well as their exit from these places individually or collectively, in accordance with Article 11 (c) of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442," it was stated.

AN ADMINISTRATOR HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO TUNCELI AND OVACIK MUNICIPALITIES

The Ministry of Interior announced that Tunceli Mayor Cevdet Konak and Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül have been removed from their positions. The statement noted that Tunceli Mayor Cevdet Konak and Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül were sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison for the crime of "being a member of the PKK/KCK terrorist organization." It was announced that Tunceli Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu was appointed as the trustee for Tunceli Municipality, and Ovacık District Governor Hüseyin Şamil Sözen was appointed as the trustee for Ovacık Municipality.

PROTESTS BEGAN AFTER THE TRUSTEE DECISION

After the mayors of Tunceli and Ovacık were removed from their positions due to their alleged ties to terrorism, citizens of Tunceli began protests in front of the municipality.
