Former Deputy General Manager of Ziraat Bank: A 5,000 TL banknote should be issued.

Former Deputy General Manager of Ziraat Bank: A 5,000 TL banknote should be issued.

Prof. Dr. Şenol Babuşcu stated that due to high inflation in Turkey, it is necessary to issue 5,000 lira banknotes. Previously, Babuşcu had indicated that the issuance of 500 and 1,000 lira banknotes was necessary, emphasizing that high denomination banknotes would not increase inflation.

Former Deputy General Manager of Ziraat Bank, Prof. Dr. Şenol Babuşcu, stated that new banknotes must be issued, saying, "Three years ago, 500 and 1000 lira banknotes should have been issued, but today this is not sufficient. Currently, 5000 lira banknotes should be issued. High denomination banknotes do not increase inflation; high denomination banknotes are issued when inflation rises," he said.

Former Deputy General Manager of Ziraat Bank, Prof. Dr. Şenol Babuşcu, argued that the government is not issuing large banknotes to avoid acknowledging the existence of high inflation, using the following statements: "There must definitely be higher denomination banknotes issued. Looking at our country now, the share of 200 lira banknotes has exceeded 50%, reaching around 60%. The share of the two largest banknotes in the market has reached 95%," he stated.

"HIGH DENOMINATION BANKNOTES DO NOT INCREASE INFLATION; HIGH DENOMINATION BANKNOTES ARE ISSUED WHEN INFLATION RISES"

"Higher denomination banknotes should have been issued three years ago. We have been bringing this issue to the agenda for three years. However, unfortunately, the government is not interested in this matter. Because when they issue large banknotes, they would be acknowledging the existence of a high inflation environment. Therefore, they do not want to issue them. It is said that issuing high denomination banknotes is 'harmful for inflation,' but high denomination banknotes do not increase inflation; high denomination banknotes are issued when inflation rises. Three years ago, 500 and 1000 lira banknotes should have been issued, but today this is not sufficient. Currently, 5000 lira banknotes should be issued."
