Former Greek Pm's Condition Stable After Letter Bomb

Former Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos -- hurt on Thursday by a letter bomb -- remains hospitalized in a stable condition, medical sources confirmed on Friday.



Papademos, who served as an independent interim prime minister between November 2011 and May 2012, was injured in an explosion on Thursday afternoon, after opening a booby-trapped envelope while riding in his car.



The former politician, his driver and a security officer who were also riding in the car which belonged to the Bank of Greece, where all transported to hospital with non-life-threatening wounds, police told Anadolu Agency.



A day after the attack, police remain on high alert, searching post offices, embassies and Athens's airport for additional packages which may contain explosives, a senior government official said.



No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, however similar packages were sent in past months to Greek and European officials by a violent ultra-left group known as Conspiracy of the Fire Nuclei.



All major Greek parties immediately condemned Thursday's attack.



"This is a blow to democracy," the governing SYRIZA party said hours after the blast.



Papademos also served as Vice President of the European Central Bank and Governor of the Bank of Greece before being appointed interim prime minister. -
