ADDRESSING GRADUATES WITH THE WORDS 'DO NOT BOW' IN TURKISH

In his speech, Tsipras said, "A few days ago, while walking on one of the main streets of Athens, a young Turk approached me and surprised me by telling me not to give up. He expressed that the Turks have a saying 'Do not bow. Keep your head up.' This is something I will always remember. Today, one year later, as we celebrate your graduation, I want you to remember these words. For all the wonderful moments and all the great challenges ahead. For everything you need to fight for; in your life, your country, your family, and your future. You must find a way to progress while preserving your principles. And never forget this: Do not bow."

QUOTED FROM NAZIM HIKMET

Reminding a line from Nazim Hikmet's poem in his speech, Tsipras said, "Your famous poet said, 'The most beautiful sea is the one that has not been crossed yet.' This is exactly what the Eastern Mediterranean should be. A sea of mutual sovereignty and respect for our sovereignty rights. A sea of peace and cooperation."
