NASRALLAH KILLED IN ISRAEL'S ASSASSINATION

In a written statement from the Israel Defense Forces, it was stated that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an attack on the Lebanese capital Beirut last night. The statement said, "Yesterday, Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah's southern front commander Ali Karaki, and other commanders were killed. The attack was carried out by fighter jets belonging to the Air Force, targeting Hezbollah's main headquarters located under a building in the Dahieh area of Beirut. The attack was conducted while senior Hezbollah officials were at the headquarters coordinating attacks against Israel," it was stated.

"WE WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT ISRAEL"

After Israel's statement, eyes turned to Hezbollah. Hezbollah, which made the expected statement, confirmed that their leader Nasrallah was killed by Israel with the following words: "Our leader has been killed, we will continue to fight Israel." Hamas also stated that the death of Hezbollah Secretary-General Nasrallah would only strengthen the resistance further.

THEY SHARED PHOTOS OF THE KILLED COMMANDERS

Meanwhile, while Israel shared photos of the Hezbollah command structure it killed, a statement came from Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi. Halevi promised to "reach" anyone who threatens Israeli citizens, stating, "This is not the end of our operations. We know how to reach anyone who threatens Israeli citizens," he said.

WHO IS HASAN NASRALLAH?

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hasan Nasrallah was born on August 31, 1960, in the capital Beirut. When the civil war in Lebanon began in 1975, Nasrallah, who was 15 years old, returned with his family to his hometown of Sur, to the village of al-Bazuriyeh, and joined the Shiite Amal Movement there.

Receiving religious education in schools referred to as "hawza" in Shiite centers in Iraq and Iran, Nasrallah later returned to Lebanon and studied at the school founded by Amal Movement leader Abbas Musawi. After Israel's invasion of Lebanon in 1982, he joined the Hezbollah organization. Following the assassination of Abbas Musawi by Israel in 1992, he was elected as the Secretary-General of Hezbollah on February 12, 1992.

GAINED GREAT PRESTIGE IN THE 2006 WAR

During the Israel-Lebanon War, on July 14, 2006, the office that Nasrallah had visited a few hours earlier was destroyed by Israeli bombs. However, Nasrallah managed to survive. Hezbollah's role in liberating southern Lebanon from 22 years of Israeli occupation in 2000 and then in the July 2006 war brought great prestige to Nasrallah, while Hezbollah was seen as the victor of the 2006 Lebanon War in many Middle Eastern countries.

Nasrallah also played a significant role in negotiating a swap agreement for the return of Lebanese and Arab prisoners and the bodies of resistance fighters held by Israel.

HIS SUPPORT FOR THE ASSAD REGIME DREW REACTIONS

His passionate speeches and strong personality were factors that gained him popularity in the Arab and Islamic world, and his speeches received wide resonance and interest. However, after Hezbollah sided with Bashar al-Assad's regime in suppressing the Syrian revolution that broke out in 2011, Nasrallah largely lost this popularity.

Hezbollah, along with other armed movements supported by Iran, contributed to the displacement of millions of Syrians by committing massacres in many towns and cities in Syria by participating in the war that the Assad regime launched against revolutionaries. This led to serious criticisms directed at Hezbollah, its leadership, and especially Nasrallah.

Following Hamas's armed wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, launching a comprehensive attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, citing the need to respond to "constant violations against Palestinians and sacred values, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque," Nasrallah's name came back to the agenda. Nasrallah announced that a front had been opened against Israel in southern Lebanon to support the Palestinian resistance and stated in many of his speeches that this front would not calm down until the war in Gaza was over. However, Nasrallah emphasized that this front was a support front for Palestine, implying that they did not want to enter into an all-out war with Israel.
