Georgian Premier Hosts Iftar Dinner For Muslim Community In Capital

29.03.2024 03:42

Muslim community has made great contributions to development of Georgia, says Irakli Kobakhidze.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze hosted an iftar or fast-breaking dinner Thursday in the capital Tbilisi in observance of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The event was attended by Muslim diplomats and politicians as well as officials from the Administration of All Muslims of Georgia, according to a statement by the Georgian Prime Ministry.

Türkiye's Ambassador to Georgia Ali Kaan Orbay was among the guests.

Speaking at the event, Kobakhidze said the Muslims living in the country have made significant contributions to the development and progress of Georgia.

"The Muslim community, which is an integral part of us, has made great contributions to the development of our country, and there is a deep-rooted history behind our brotherhood," he said.

Underling that the government continues to support the Muslim community in Georgia, he said: "The state has handed over 237 mosques to the Muslim community, and 20 more mosques are expected to be handed over."

"While the state has increased its funding for the Muslim community to nearly 50 million Turkish liras ($1.5 million), this support will further increase with economic growth," Kobakhidze added.
