Germany's envoy to Ankara has said Germany is determined to fight against ISIL in alliance with other countries like the U.S. and Turkey.
Eberhard Pohl, during a visit to Turkey's eastern city of Erzurum on Wednesday, said Germany understands Turkey's stand against ISIL, given the fact that 49 Turks have been held hostage by the terrorist organization for three months.
"Germany agrees it is necessary to prevent this kind of brutal power being in charge in Iraq," said Pohl.
Although the terrorist organization names itself the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, Pohl said Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Religious Affairs head Mehmet Gormez had declared the group had nothing to do with Islam.
The ambassador also said Germany was already helping the Kurdish people with humanitarian aid, and weapons assistance would also continue.
ISIL militants seized 49 Turkish consulate staff, including the consul-general and family members, in the Iraqi city of Mosul in June.
The hostages are believed to be still held by the terror group.
