In Manisa, grape producers reacted to low prices, stating that they had to sell their products below cost. Producers who came from Sarıgöl to Yunusemre distributed a truckload of grapes to citizens for free instead of selling them during the protest they organized in Horozköy Square.

Grape producers from the Sarıgöl district of Manisa organized a protest in the Yunusemre district to react to low sales prices and rising production costs. At the action held in Horozköy Square, a truckload of grapes was distributed free of charge to citizens, while producers stated that they could not get the reward for their labor and called on the authorities for a solution.

“THE GRAPES SOLD DID NOT EVEN COVER THE DIESEL COST”

Sarıgöl Mayor Tahsin Akdeniz, Yunusemre Mayor Semih Balaban, YENİ Party representatives, municipal administrators, council members, and grape producers attended the action.

“WHAT MORE DO WE NEED TO DO TO MAKE OUR VOICE HEARD?”

Sarıgöl Mayor Tahsin Akdeniz  drew attention to the difficulties experienced by grape producers, stating that the products could not find buyers and that farmers were having difficulty preparing for the next season.

Offering solution proposals for the utilization of dried and fresh grapes, Akdeniz called for restricting grape imports and reinstating export supports implemented in past years.

Akdeniz, saying, “What more do we need to do to make our voice heard?”, called for the problems experienced by producers to be taken into consideration by the authorities.

Yunusemre Mayor Semih Balaban also stated that producers should receive the reward for their labor and called for listening to the voices of farmers so that grape production can be sustained.

After the speeches, a truckload of grapes was distributed free of charge to citizens in the square.
