Greece has taken action to support measures aimed at the demographic development of the border region. A financial aid of 380,000 TL will be provided to citizens who settle in the villages along the banks of the Meriç River, which forms the border line with Turkey in Western Thrace, in order to increase the population in these areas.

According to a news report in the Sözcü newspaper, Greece has submitted a bill to the parliament that includes providing 10,000 Euros (380,000 TL) to families who will permanently settle in the villages of Sofulu (Soufli), Kumçiftliği (Orestiada), and Dimetoka (Didymoteicho) located in the Evros province, which forms the border line with Turkey along the Meriç River.

It was announced that a draft law containing support measures aimed at increasing the declining population rate, especially in the villages along the Turkey border in Evros province, was presented to the Parliament by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zacharaki.

SETTLEMENTS WITH A POPULATION OF UP TO 500

According to the draft law expected to be approved by the Greek parliament, households settling in settlements with a population of up to 500 will receive 10,000 Euros. For households settling in settlements with a population of more than 500, 6,000 Euros will be given, with an additional 1,000 Euros for each small child, up to a total of 10,000 Euros.

TOTAL BUDGET OF 8 MILLION EUROS

The draft law specifically prepared for Evros province is part of a general plan aimed at demographic strengthening, development, and reconstruction, with a total budget of 8 million Euros announced for the program.
