On the island of Meis, located approximately 2 kilometers from Turkey, where Turkish Air Force warplanes recently conducted flights, Greek warplanes have now performed low-altitude flights. In a news report from Greek media outlet Pentapostagma regarding this development, it stated, 'The Greek Air Force is preparing for a hot conflict.'
Following the flights conducted by Turkish Air Force fighter jets around Meis Island, Greek fighter jets have now made low-altitude flights in the region.
"PREPARING FOR HOT CONFLICT"
As the mutual military activity once again escalates tensions between the two countries, disputes over the island's status and sovereignty in the airspace have come to the fore.
This development has garnered wide coverage in the Greek media. Prominent Greek news outlet Pentapostagma reported the military activity to its readers under the headline "Greek Air Force preparing for hot conflict." The report claimed that due to increased air activity and radar lock-ons around Meis Island, the Greek Air Force has been instructed to be prepared for the possibility of "hot conflict." Pentapostagma stated that the Greek military is on alert in the face of Turkey's rapidly developing indigenous UAV/SİHA technologies.
CRISIS BETWEEN TURKEY AND GREECE
At the root of the crisis between Turkey and Greece lies Athens' desire to turn the Aegean Sea into a "Greek lake" by violating international law. Provocations carried out, particularly from Meis Island, which is only 2 kilometers from the Turkish coast and 580 kilometers from the Greek mainland, are a result of Greece's illegal claims over maritime jurisdiction areas.
Athens attempts to usurp Turkey's legitimate Mediterranean rights by claiming that even tiny islands off the coast of Anatolia have vast continental shelves. Ankara, on the other hand, upholds the rights of mainlands and defends its own Blue Homeland borders based on fundamental principles of international law.
