Colombian President Gustavo Petro accused U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio of making secret plans to have him imprisoned. Petro stated, "Do not threaten us, do not deceive us, we know the tricks. The reality of war in this land is proven by two centuries of experience. Wars sometimes arise for no reason at all."
According to the news from Colombia's established newspaper El Tiempo, Colombian President Gustavo Petro stated in a press release that Rubio has frequently targeted him and alleged that he is collaborating with the opposition in Colombia.
"THIS PEOPLE DOES NOT KNEEL BEFORE ANYONE" President Petro said the following in his criticisms of Rubio: "If he wants to make me wear that orange prison outfit, let him try, but this people does not kneel before anyone. They have grievances from the past, I know those issues. He cannot make any Colombian guilty because of what his grandfather or father experienced."

RUBIO'S ATTITUDE TOWARDS COLOMBIA IS A SUBJECT OF DEBATE Since taking office, Rubio, who has visited many Central and South American countries, has been criticized for ignoring Colombia. Petro has previously accused Rubio of being prejudiced against Colombia and claimed that he provided false information to U.S. President Donald Trump about his country. In September, the U.S. removed Colombia from the list of "certified countries," deeming it unsuccessful in the fight against drugs.
